The highlights of the sporting calendar are those of the Interclan competitions. Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics carnivals are held throughout the year, and challenge the students to gain points for their clan with the ultimate goal of seeking “Oval Clan Champion”. These carnivals allow for students to showcase their talent with the aim of progressing through as part of the MacGregor Team to represent the school at a district level. Although we witness many gifted students at these events, the Interclan competitions are also a platform for students to display team work and encourage themselves and others as they participate for clan points. Students are encouraged to dress in clan colours for each of these events.
Alpin – Blue
Duncan – Yellow
Gregor – Green
Rob Roy - Red
The carnivals are scheduled at the following times:
· Swimming carnival early in term 1
· Cross Country late in term 1
· Athletics (separate track and field events) late in term 2
Wednesday Afternoon Sport
The sporting year is divided into Summer, Winter and Spring Seasons, aimed at allowing students to participate in wide range of sporting activities.
INTERSCHOOL SPORT
MacGregor is part of the Karawatha District where we compete in an interschool competition against schools including; Sunnybank SHS, Runcorn SHS, Calamvale CC, Park Ridge SHS, Browns Plains SHS and Stretton SC. Interschool sport is played throughout the Summer and Winter Seasons (Term 1, 2 and 3) and involves the following sports:
· Touch Football
· Softball
· Volleyball
· Basketball
· Cricket
· Soccer
· AFL
· Netball
Selection trials for interschool sport teams occur during the Wednesday Sport allocated time over a two week period prior to each season. Due to the nature of Interschool sport, teams are required to play at both home and away venues and as such, must complete a permission/medical form and commit to sport fees to confirm their place in the team.
MacGregor has seen great success over the years with many teams progressing through to metropolitan finals after finishing on top of the district competition.
REC SPORT
Wednesday afternoon sport also offers an extensive variety of recreation activities to encourage our Year 8-10 students to engage in physical activity. Rec sport options vary from on campus activities to utilising the great facilities of our local community. As with interschool sport, there are a number of Rec Sport options that are conducted out of school grounds, and as such, permission/medical forms and payments are required in order for students to take part in such options. Rec Sport options are presented to students at the beginning of each season. Students are required to individually sign up to their chosen activity at the specified time. Each sport season lasts for 9 weeks, and students are required to remain in their chosen activity for the duration of the season. Please refer to the Rec Sport option flyer for specific details.
