Scholarships and Excellence Programs

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​MacGregor State High School is known for its exceptional scholarship and excellence programs, cultivating an environment for student ambition and achievement. We are committed to pursuing student excellence through a team of dedicated staff, an innovative curriculum and diverse extra-curricular activities.

Each year, Year 6 students (enrolling for Year 7 at MacGregor State High School) have the opportunity to apply for a variety of scholarship and excellence programs. Acceptance of applications are based on merit and various examination or audition processes. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Scholarship Opportunities 

MacGregor State High School offers scholarship for students entering Year 7. These programs reward high achievement through a merit-based application process. 

Scholarship Categories

Scholarships are available in three main domains:

  • Academic: Requires strong past academic results.
  • Cultural: Covers Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music (Instrumental/Vocal), and Visual Art. Applicants should show high potential or hold an AMEB Grade 4 qualification (or equivalent).
  • Sporting: Requires proven excellence at a State or National level. 

Key Requirements

  • Eligibility: Students must be enrolling for Year 7. Applicants from outside the local catchment area are eligible to apply.
  • Selection: Based on merit, which may include examinations, auditions, and a review of past school/NAPLAN reports.
  • Participation: All candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to general school activities.

Excellence Programs

MacGregor State High School offers specialized Excellence Programs alongside its scholarship opportunities for Year 7 students. 

Available Programs

  • Academic Excellence (Honours): Selective entry via exams and past reports.
  • Music Excellence: Performance-based program for gifted musicians.
  • JAC Program (Arts): Focused on creative and artistic development.
  • Dance Performance Teams: Advanced technique and performance opportunities.
  • Volleyball Development: Specialized sports coaching and skills training. 

Selection Process

Admission is merit-based. Applicants must complete an interview and a program-specific assessment, such as: 

  • Exams (Academic)
  • Auditions (Arts/Music/Dance)
  • Tryouts (Volleyball)

Note: If you apply for both a scholarship and its matching Excellence Program (e.g., Music), you only need to complete one audition for both. 

Application Timeline

  • 2026 Entry: Applications are now closed.
  • 2027 Entry: Scholarship details will be announced in Term 1, 2026

Tip: Apply early in future rounds. Programs often reach capacity after the second round, and late applicants may be waitlisted.

​ Apply for Scholarships and Excellence Programs

​Students are able to submit applications for multiple Scholarships and/or Excellence Programs. 

In many cases, students may wish to apply for a scholarship and the accompanying Excellence Program. In these cases, students will only be required to complete one audition for assessment of both applications. 

​2026 Scholarship applications are now closed.​ Scholarship offerings for Year 7 2027 will be announced in Term 1 2026.
