The MacGregor State High School Academic Excellence Program is designed to challenge high-achieving students by extending and developing their academic abilities in a highly motivated and engaging learning environment. The program also provides a framework for students to build on their personal strengths and understand how to use them to make a meaningful impact on the world around them.
Students in the program are grouped together in one class and complete their studies in English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities. They follow the same curriculum and assessments as other students but may also undertake additional projects or explore topics in greater depth. These extension activities are designed to further develop key capabilities:
- Critical and Creative Thinking
- Collaboration
- Communication
- Organisation and Time Management
Learning experiences are enriched through negotiated tasks, fast-tracking, cognitively demanding challenges, community projects, and enhancement activities.
Entry into the Academic Excellence Program is selective, with students assessed through an ACER entrance exam, alongside report card and NAPLAN results.
